Shriya Kaneriya, MD
Hi there. My name is Shriya, and I'm a board-certified psychiatrist based out of New Haven, Connecticut. I love to play and listen to music, dance, watch movies, read, write, learn new languages, and take nature walks in the woods and by the seaside.

Much of my life can be characterized by a synergy between the scientific and artistic faculties of my brain. As a physician, I am part scholar, teacher, and advocate. As an artist, I am part musician, writer, and storyteller. While both of these identities describe important parts of who I am, it is in the practice of psychiatry that I’ve found a home for the sum of my parts.
I believe that Medicine = Science + Story. At Ikigai Psychiatry, I aspire to a practice of medicine where symptoms meet story, logic meets empathy, quantitative meets qualitative, analytic skill meets creative intuition, and sharp clinical acumen meets genuine human connection. Stories impact the way we perceive ourselves, relate to other people, and navigate through the world around us. Learning how stories work has shaped how carefully I listen to them — it's become a way of being present in my work that not only honors the experience of my patient, but also encourages self-reflection as a physician.
Beyond improving diagnostic accuracy and treatment outcomes, I have found that utilizing a narrative lens in the clinical context allows a reframe in perspective away from what is lost in illness and toward what is preserved — and in doing so, engages the innate ability I believe every human being possesses for resilience and healing. Not everything in life happens for a reason or is within our control, but we can find meaning and a sense of purpose in the things that happen.
I am passionate about doing the rewarding work of providing holistic, incremental care that alleviates suffering, promotes self-discovery, and helps patients still feel like people as they create more authentic and fulfilling lives. This goal is representative of the kind of orientation with which I approach my work as well as my own life — around having an
open heart,
a curious mind,
and a willingness to pay it forward.
I appreciate you joining me here, and I look forward to the opportunity to help you on your journey.
