Frequently Asked Questions
Where do you see patients?
Patients must be physically located in Connecticut state. This is a telemedicine-only practice, and all appointments are conducted virtually using state-of-the art videoconference technology that allows face-to-face contact over any distance and the convenience to access mental health care from home, office, or any place private that works for you. In-person appointments are not offered at this time.
What age groups do you see?
This practice currently provides mental health care to adults ages 18-65.
Do you accept insurance?
I do not participate with any health insurance plans, Medicare, or Medicaid at this time. I am thus considered an “out-of-network” provider. This allows for treatment to be more individualized based on your unique needs.
However, I do provide a “superbill” invoice (itemized receipt) for appointments that you can submit to your insurance company for partial reimbursement if you have “out-of-network” benefits.
Psychiatric treatment can also be considered eligible for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) reimbursement.
Please check with your insurance carrier to see if they reimburse for “out-of-network” visits. I would recommend asking them the following questions:
What is my insurance plan’s eligibility for out-of-network mental health outpatient, telepsychiatry care?
What amount will be reimbursed for sessions with the following CPT codes?
90792 (initial evaluation by MD)
99213 + 90833 (med management + psychotherapy – lower complexity)
99214 + 90833 (med management + psychotherapy – higher complexity)
90834 (psychotherapy)
Am I responsible for an out-of-network deductible (certain amount of payment each year) that needs to be met before receiving reimbursement and/or my insurance starts to cover the full costs of care? If so, how much of the deductible has been met this year?
How many sessions are covered by my plan per calendar year?
Please contact me for information or questions regarding fees.
Do you prescribe controlled medications?
Due to federal regulations surrounding the prescribing of controlled substances over telemedicine (Ryan Haight Act), I do not prescribe any controlled medications at this time.
Examples of controlled medications include:
Stimulants for ADHD such as Ritalin, Adderall, Vyvanse. Of note, I do discuss and provide non-stimulant options which may be helpful for ADHD.
Benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin
Sleep medications such as Ambien, Lunesta, and Sonata
Do you complete requests for paperwork?
I do not offer FMLA or disability evaluations, worker's compensation evaluations, forensic evaluations, or provide legal services or testimony. I do not fill out paperwork for school absences, work accommodations, or emotional support animals.
Important Information Regarding Telemedicine
Although virtual visits are appropriate for many conditions, there are some exceptions that may require a higher level of care than what I can safely provide through telemedicine:
Alcohol and other substance use disorders
Patients with active suicidal thoughts or urges to self-harm
Patients with thoughts of harming someone else
Severely ill patients, recently discharged from inpatient hospitalization, or others who may require in-person visits
If experiencing thoughts of harm to self or others, please call 988, 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
